Where are we? And what's happening?
The first person to guess correctly will be my lunch date -- I'll buy yours and you can buy mine.
Remember, leave your best guess as a comment on this blog but don't try to give
the entire back story (that's my job).
I'll have the full scoop on
Thursday.
The word Pyrex suggests that the subject is glass; could it be a clock tower face? Something to do with a lens at Cal Tech or PCC? Looks like the 1930s...
ReplyDeleteThe Giant Eye!
DeleteLooks like it could be a mirror for a telescope; Mt. Wilson, maybe?
ReplyDeleteToo big (and too late) for Wilson. Make it the Hale telescope for Mt. Palomar.
ReplyDeleteI must really want a lunch date with Ann (or I can't resist a good research challenge). The mirror is being unloaded for grinding and polishing in Pasadena. And the rest of the story I will look forward to reading in this blog.
ReplyDeleteMy guess also: it's the mirror for the Hale telescope on Mt. Palomar arriving to be polished at Caltech.
ReplyDeletePyrex (the dish maker) is the clue - Mount Wilson lens for the big telescope.
ReplyDeleteNo lunch for me.

ReplyDeleteNo Comment. Well, just one: I've seen this foto before & know a little about it - including who took the fotograph. But, I've already had plenty of meals with the PIO Emeritus.
ReplyDeleteAnd, Ann, here's another comment: I just saw Judy, your foodie companion, walk by the cafe in Old Town. Probably she's on the way to, or from, being your lunch date for the day! :P
ReplyDeleteFunny, Judy and I did have lunch together today!
ReplyDeleteWhere?/What?/Would u eat there again? :)
ReplyDeleteActually 3 people I know walked by but I was too lazy to get up and say, "Hey!!"
Cafe, you keep trying to get me to do restaurant reviews on my blog!
