Looking for Something To Do? Free Events Aug. 15 to 21


Here are events scheduled Saturday, Aug. 15, to Friday, Aug. 21.

All events are free, so take a look -- and don't you dare say there's nothing to do in Pasadena!

The Sri Lanka Day festival Saturday, Aug. 15, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Paseo Colorado will feature native food, music, dances, costumes and much more.

Celebrate the 55th anniversary of the Pasadena Senior Center Saturday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with live music, food, dance performances, an art show, fun photo booth, KidsZone, billiards tournament and much more. All ages are welcome.

Nia Andrews will perform R&B and soul Saturday, Aug. 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the courtyard at One Colorado

Jimmy LaFave will perform his unique Red Dirt folk music Saturday, Aug. 15, at 8 p.m. at the Levitt Pavilion. A pre-concert festival will begin at 6:30 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and a picnic or purchase dinner at the park.

The Playhouse District's Summer Jazz Series presents Little Brazil Sunday, Aug. 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Vroman's courtyard.   

The Lin Rountree Quartet will perform jazz Sunday, Aug. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Levitt Pavilion. A pre-concert festival will begin at 5:30 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and a picnic or purchase dinner at the park.

Grammy Award-winning Lisa Haley and the Zydekats will perform lively Cajun Zydeco music Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the band shell at Memorial Park. Sponsored by the Pasadena Senior Center, all ages are welcome. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and a picnic or purchase dinner at the park.

Treasure Island (1950, PG) starring Robert Newton and Bobby Driscoll will be shown on the big screen Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 1 p.m. in the Donald R. Wright Auditorium at Central Library. Young Jim Hawkins is caught up with the pirate Long John Silver in search of the buried treasure of  buccaneer Captain Flint in this adaptation of the classic novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. 



The third Thursday (and first Friday) of every month is Free Admission Day at the Pasadena Museum of California Art. On Thursday, Aug. 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. enjoy the current exhibitions and everything else the museum has to offer.  

Open Hands will perform jazz Thursday, Aug. 20,, at 8 p.m. at the Levitt Pavilion. A pre-concert festival will begin at 6:30 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and a picnic or purchase dinner at the park.  

Noah (2014, PG-13) starring Russell Crowe and Emma Watson will be shown on the big screen Friday, Aug. 21, at 1 p.m. in the Scott Pavilion at the Pasadena Senior Center. A man is chosen by God to undertake a momentous mission before an apocalyptic flood cleanses the Earth. You do not have to be a member of the Pasadena Senior Center to attend.

Movies in the Park presents Big Hero 6 (2014, PG) with the voice talents of Ryan Potter and Scott Adsit Friday, Aug. 21, at 8 p.m. at Villa-Parke. An inflatable robot and his prodigy team up with a group of friends to form a band of high-tech heroes.

Natalia Clavier and Elsten Torres will perform Latin music Friday, Aug. 21, at 8 p.m. at the Levitt Pavilion. A pre-concert festival will begin at 6:30 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and a picnic or purchase dinner at the park.
