I think this has to do with an early nursery business. Some guy who kept his nursery on Linda Vista in the San Rafael area. Introduced new exotics to the area. This is the green house and the woman is standing in front of boxes of cuttings.

I don't know -- the woman looks worried as she peers out the window. Is it a Japanese-American around WW2, a nursery owner?
ReplyDeleteThis is a really difficult one, Ann, but it's a beautiful photo. By her clothes I'd say early 1900s. Those things in the containers could be plants, but not like any I know, unless they're orchids. I think it's too early to be at the Fannie Morrison Horticultural Center at Brookside Park (1938), so perhaps it's an early example of plants being grown for the Rose Parade?
ReplyDeleteI'm leaving a comment because I want to know the answer! But I haven't a clue. The only thing that comes to mind is barbed wire, probably because I grew up where barbed wire was invented.
