Mystery History

Where are we? And what's happening?

The first person to guess correctly will win lunch with me -- I'll buy yours and you'll buy mine.

Remember, leave your brief guess as a comment on this blog post but don't try to give the entire back story (that's my job).

I'll have the full scoop on Thursday.

  1. I walk by this place all the time, since I guessed correctly last time. I will keep it to myself. I know approximately the year it was taken : -)

  2. For some reason my blog wouldn't let Vannia De La Cuba post a response, so here is her guess:
"the laundry building on south Raymond?"

  3. It is the Royal Laundry Building on South Raymond Ave at Bellevue. This was the former site of the Pasadena Grand Opera House. Could this be a delivery service for the laundry?

  4. Taxi driver waits outside The Auditorium Hotel, formerly the Lowe Opera House.

  5. Liz, Mystery History posts go live at midnight every other Tuesday.

  6. I think this is the Hale Building, and that is a Pasadena PD officer with perhaps the first squad car.

  8. So Vannia and John got the site. I wonder if he's write about the "what's happening" part?

  9. Love that tiled entrance. Reminds me of the entrance to Jacob Maarse Flowers in Pasadena, which was uncovered to reveal its original tiles in recent years. Did not know this was an Opera House. Isn't it owned by Disney now?

  10. Well, I can tell you the picture is after 1929 and before 1935, because that is an America Austin, first generation before becoming American Bantam in 1936.
